The Beacon, Dagenham
FancyaPint?'s review...
"The Beacon" is one of several large pubs on what was once the largest public housing project in the world, the Becontree Estate. This one, at the northeastern edge of the estate, is by no means the most disagreeable of these generally rather functional and charmless boozers. There are two large bars, the right hand one being slightly less gloomy than that to the left. A traditional, predominately male, atmosphere dominates (we overheard one group plotting a trip to see Jim Davidson in Purfleet), which might alarm some of a more sensitive disposition. A sizeable beer garden and a surprisingly better-than-average jukebox provide some small consolation amidst the gloom and fug.
