The Bell, Sydenham
FancyaPint?'s review...
Despite the name, Bell Green isn't a pastoral idyll in SE26; in fact its major landmarks (huge Gas holders and a giant Sainsbury's) tell a common tale of post-industrial Britain. Given those changes, it's perhaps a surprise to find the local pub remains pretty unchanged - in fact it's been done up recently. Most notable are the period furnishings, including some old-time dividers, closely followed by the friendly staff. Two pool tables in the back which, while slightly crowded, were both busy when we were in last. There's a huge garden and tellies spread around the place. And importantly on those cold winter nights, a large open fire. Although there was nothing on the taps when were in last, the Guinness was decent and all in all it's a very decent local pub. Oh, and you can get your car washed while you're having a insert your fave soft drink here.
