This pub can't quite seem to find its niche. There's no doubting its beauty, the elegant gold decorations on the ceiling and original wooden features are lovely. And the recent facelift of novelty items in the windows and new furniture really lift the place. However, something is missing on the other side of the bar. Service has often been patchy here, and our last visit was a particular low point, not helped by the fact that the Black Lion is only serving one real ale (the ubiquitous Doom Bar), leaving its other 3 hand pumps empty. The menu has got grander, more expensive yet shorter. Choice is not a priority here. It's a shame, as it has been a very nice welcoming pub in the past.

This place has a lovely fire place and is a very nice building however the incredibly inapropriately dressed waitresses let it down, I wouldn't recommend it to couples or families, the bar maids have no qualms with flirting with boyfriends! Lots of appreciative young lads!!
