The Bree Louise, Euston
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Bree Louise in many ways is a good pub in a poor pub's surroundings. It is certainly one of the premier pubs for real ale in North London, with several beers on hand pump and on a good selection in barrels behind the bar. And for those flashing their CAMRA cards, the beer is 50p cheaper per pint as well. However, the pub itself is small and decidedly 1970s in décor. There is suspicious carpet underfoot, and mismatched wooden chairs throughout. Unlike other small pubs in the capital that ooze charm and encourage table sharing or at least casual standing around, in the Bree one feels a little exposed. But there are other compensations. The numerous bar staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the pub isn't shaped by sport on TV (though we were here once to witness it packed for an England rugby match) and the pies smell great (we have heard about their excellence but not sampled them personally). The pub is situated a stone's throw from Euston Station and Drummond Street - NW1's answer to Brick Lane. Definitely a pub aimed at the real ale community and trying hard despite its structural challenges.

Best beer pub in London. If you're not happy with a beer , they will change it without any fuss. Some outstanding offers from small independent brewers which makes every day a beer festival. Just perfect for anyone who wants well priced and top quality variation. If you want Greene King, Bombardier or Courage this is not the place for you.

Have been here three times and each time has been a pleasure. First time was when two American friends were visiting the city and wanted some decent real ale and food. Luckily we come to the right place, even though the place was packed the staff were polite, patient and knowledgable.
Second time was better as myself and my girlfriend were heading to Liverpool and wanted some beer and cider for the train. Step forward the landlord who helped us out with their takeaway containers.
Third time was in April on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Staff again impeccable and let us know about their three beer platter which is three different beers in third glasses. Superb.
Beer has always been good and well kept which is a challenge considering how big the range is but it can be done. No complaints here!

Visited the place on 28/04/2010. It smelled like a toilet, the beer was dull and lifeless and the staff didn't seem to know much about the ale: We asked for their recommendation for the best bitter they sold and were served something the colour of Guinness. I don't know what it was but it wasn't any kind of bitter.

Friendly staff and the tables kept clean. But a lot of the beers seemed to be at the end of the barrel, causing them to be flat and losing their taste. I think there needs to be a bit more thought into the beers and remember quality is better than quantity. All the beers were what you can find in any other pub with real ales within a two or three mile radius.
Although it was busy, I also thought that the pub was lacking that last piece of the jigsaw, atmosphere. It also has the feeling of a clean, but sterile late 70s pub with no imagination on the decor. Also it could do with some more comfortable seating.
My biggest put off about this pub is its dual pricing policy. The beer is expensive, but is 50p a pint cheaper if you are a member of CAMRA. I am not going to join CAMRA just to get cheaper beer in the Bree Louise, I will go to the Doric Arch where the beer is same price for everyone and the quality is better.

As mentioned the real ale selection is fantastic and the food is just as good. I've been coming here for a few weeks now and it's one I always go out of my way to go to. The landlord and staff are friendly and happy to let you try the ale before you buy, and give advice on bottled beers and ciders wherever possible.
CAMRA members get pints for £2.50 and their tasty pies for £5.

Popped in there yesterday(15/03/09) during the England v France game. Beer quality was first rate, service friendly. Clientele a mix of students and locals all rubbing along just fine. Definately one i'll return to.
