The Bridge Lounge & Dining Room replaces the somewhat underwhelming Camel that used to inhabit this spot. It's a typical contemporary food pub aimed squarely at the office workers in these parts and better-off tourists. For ale fans there doesn't, at first glance, appear to be much of a choice - there are only a couple of hand pumps, but the beers on offer are a little more esoteric than usual - with Goldblade and Bays Ale available at our last visit here. However, you get the feeling real ale isn't the main passion of the punters in this place - the island bar is stacked with the spirits, mixers and accoutrements appropriate for cocktail making and there's a substantial wine list. If you're hungry, there's a gastro bar menu and a more formal dining room up stairs. If one had to make a comparison, the Camel could best be described as an All Bar One, but with a Victorian, shabby chic interior (although it still manages the typical ABO harsh acoustics). A welcome newcomer, the Bridge Lounge brings a more sophisticated drinking and dining experience to this area. It's pretty much a three-pinter (although we would like to see some soft furnishings to dampen the reverb). It's a pub we think will get even more popular as the surrounding developments are completed.
