The Bull, Islington
FancyaPint?'s review...
When we last reviewed The Bull in 2004 we thought it displayed 'real individuality' and although we were more or less accurate back then, time has shown that this was simply one of the earlier branches of the unbranded M&B chain. As such, there's the (now) familiar mix of modern and traditional decor, an extensive pretend gastro food menu and a good enough choice of drink to keep the ale, continental lager and wine crowds equally happy. Its an odd shape but larger than it initially appears, with the benefit of a skylit back area and a nice loungey upstairs space accessed by a spiral staircase - even those who don't break a sweat carrying precarious handfuls of drinks might think twice before attempting the ascent. The clientele are those you might expect in Upper Street - after work groups, weekenders and couples - who give it a mixed, if busy atmosphere. A perfectly acceptable pub.

After leaving Angel station, cross Upper Street and head toward Highbury Corner past the Business Design Centre. It's a good five-ten minutes walk. It's on the left about 200 yards from Islington Green.
