"Europe's best Jazz venue" claims the sign outside, and given the names on the walls of past performers, they may have a point. With the jazz in question being more of a trad than an avant-garde style, your fellow drinkers are more middle-aged chaps than goatee bearded hipsters. A 19th century staging post, this one's made the transition to the 21st Century pretty well. It's modern inside, but still feels like a pub. The separate dining area and performance space still leave plenty of room for a pint and a natter. There's a relaxed and easygoing feel to this one, and non-jazz fans shouldn't be put off.
