The Castle, Farringdon
FancyaPint?'s review...
This pub has been here for a while, and claims to be the only pub with a Pawnbroker's Licence issued by a certain King George. Well, that aside, since the last refurb there's been little change since we were last in. There's still the mishmash of furnishings, the decent range of beers - traditional hand-pumped ales (although only Pride was on last time) and continental offerings such as Budvar dark, Leffe and Fruli, a decent wine list. They've also branched into ciders, with six on draught on this visit - although how long that will last with the recent increases in duty, we'll have to see. Service is fast and friendly - it's not a bad place by any means and there's lots going on with a quiz night, comedy nights, djs. The odd thing, however, is that during the day it doesn't seem to be overrun customers - although plenty of people hurry by doing whatever it is they do in Farringdon - but in the evenings, especially towards the end of the week (and especially when the weather's warm), they tend to spill out onto the pavement. And even rarer for this part of the world, it's open at weekends, with the promise of Sunday Roast!
