The Castle, Holland Park
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Castle's settled in nicely, becoming that slightly bohemian local so many long for, and so few actually get for their troubles. Saying it's got an eccentric interior's a bit like saying the Royal Albert Hall's a bit big. There's just about every type of furniture imaginable (and we can imagine a lot), from comfy settees to chaises longue and red velvet-covered loveseats. There's also a fish tank with a solitary fish in it in the corner. The locals don't seem to mind the quirkiness, and frankly it suits the place. There's a decent menu - we're mourning the loss of the fish finger sandwich, always one of our favourites - and decent beers on the three hand pumps, as well as a selection of continental lagers and beers. The locals are pretty tolerant, and the service prompt and friendly. It's also not as pricey as many of the places around, either. It can get crowded towards the weekend, especially as it's on the main drag, but, if you can find a seat, it's not a bad place for a pint or two.
