this is an OK place, it's pleasant enough inside with Tudor style décor - (watch out for the low ceiling!) There is not a lot of seating, mainly as there's a sectioned off a sort of sport area, with darts board, two pool tables and a big screen, a bit overpowering, but it is quite separate. We like the way it's introduced modern concepts but still kept its tradition and the beer garden is quite nice. It's a Greene King pub so there's a range of decent drinks and the menu is nice and cheap. This place has a very varied clientele, it's out of town but on the edge of quite a rough housing estate (Turpington), but it's not a rough pub though. It's a little bit awkward to get to but if you don't mind travelling it's worth a go.

We went to The Chequers for Mothers Day. I had the roast beef which was very tough and pre-cooked. The runner beans were hard as nails, I couldn't even call them al'dente. The roast potatoes were soft and unrecognisable, the leeks were hard and the Yorkshire was soft as anything. The tuna melt baguette was soft, hardly any cheese, soft cucumber and chips were undercooked. The roast chicken was dry as a bone also.
We complained and they apologised and even took the tuna melt off the bill but when the itemised bill came along they charged me for the service. I got them to take it off, however, the waitress was very accommodating so we gave her a tip.
