The Clapham North, Clapham Common
FancyaPint?'s review...
Arriving in the middle of another makeover isn't perhaps the best time to review a pub, but beyond the paint and decor changing slightly, the bones of the place appear to be there. To be honest, the Clapham North has been pretty much like this for a while now and has obviously carved itself a niche in the local community. The menu's gastro and it looks like most eaters will find something to please there - the promise of "simple things done well" is always a winner in our books. The Leffe we had was pleasant enough, so that the absence of real ale didn't cause us to go running out into the night screaming. The staff are friendly and the surroundings comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try the new restaurant/bar (owned by the same group) that has opened next door, but we presume that's a more formal affair. However, the reavamp isn't yet complete, so we'll have to get back to this one and see what it's like when it's finally finished (again!) - and lets hope that next time all the tables aren't set for dinner.
