One of Fuller's more upmarket efforts and clearly aiming at the N1 demographic, this is a grand Victorian pub in a very picturesque part of Barnsbury. Apart from the blander back lounge room, much of the ornate decoration remains, with plenty of etched glass and dark wood panels in evidence. If you're lucky enough to grab the seats in front of it, there's even a real fire for the winter evenings. Add to this a great selection of international bottled beers, mostly Fuller's beers on the hand pumps - the excellent London Porter was on last time we were in - plus a pretty extensive wine list and it gets hard to fault the place. The service is good and the well-made food is deservedly popular, though the chips we ordered last time were a bit on the soggy side. Even with the perfectly acceptable Islington Tap and Regent both a few minutes away, it's still easily the best of the lot, with the only downside being the difficulty to get a seat at peak times. Recommended.

While visually a charming Victorian pub, with good food, the service leaves a lot to be desired…. I’ve been a regular there for over 10 years and sadly, it’s now pretending to be something it’s not and is at the stage where if something is not right or you need to make a complaint, you are in the wrong. Instead taking feedback from a regular, (formerly) loyal customer, they will try to argue their way out of it. To prove a point. Even over a slice of bread. No apology, no grace, and one regular customer less. This has happened a few times recently. Perhaps Mary Portas will turn to pubs and come sort them out? Instead of sorting the problem and smoothing things over, you will end up leaving with an even worse experience. Ultimately, it is part of a chain and the mentality born of corporate training reigns. “If you don’t like it, don’t come back”. It’s a waste of what used to be a great gastro pub but there a lot of other options nearby so unless you’re the type never to complain, don’t waste your time with The Crown. I won’t. I’m so done, Fullers need a new word for done.

Visited the pub on Weds evening. My gripe is that the directions are a little wayward, the pub being on the corner of Cloudesley Place and Cloudesley road, not Copenhagen Road. This confused me as I marched off down Copenhagen Street (yes mea culpa) and got lost. Did find another Crown that looked so appealing from outside that I hid my iphone and hurried away. Possible 0 pinter here??

Back to the crown here, when I found it after a long 45 min stroll, again my fault and the people I asked for directions! Seems a nice boozer with decent Fullers beer though London Porter on Keg !! Shame indeed. Food was ok but my chips were too hard.

Nice juicer but I'd say a strong 3 pinter rather than a 4.

This has place has really gone donw hill since the fire - i've eaten there twice and been disappointed. Last time i went to the crown, they had run out of all the reasonably priced wines - during a credi crunch>?!? Also the staff were nowhere to be seen, one guy was more concered with putting candles on the tables (it was still light outside) than taking our order. Pleae manager person sort this out so that the the Crown can become one of my favourite winter pubs again.
