The Daniel Defoe, Stoke Newington
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Defoe is one of the more traditional pubs in Stokey, in terms of decor and clientele. There's an above average range of lagers and beers, which includes Red Stripe on tap, plus a good range of guest ales, all served up by friendly and polite bar staff. The curtained & carpeted interior is actually a rare look for a pub in this area and the decked beer garden is popular - they do need a self-closing door fir it though, as there's often an icy breeze whistling through the back bar when people forget to close it behind them. Note too the pub's over 21s only policy, thankfully rendering it a child & buggy free zone. Sadly, the pool table has disappeared and the choice of music can occasionally be laughably bad - Europop to 80s soft rock ballads are the mainstay, but it is getting better. In an area with a lot of pubs, the Defoe is perfectly fine for an afternoon of good beer, good food and good company.
