As other pubs move on, smarten up and strip down, the Dublin Castle remains. A hangover from the music scene of the 80's and 90s, this boozer attracts indie kids, rockers and tourists who come to convince themselves Camden isn't a shell of its former 'alternative' self. A definite weekend pub, the small back room has been a music venue for many a year and great shakes are made that Madness, among others, began their career here. We hasten to add that it also holds itself up as a good pub, too. Although not one for a quiet night, this is a busy, raucous place and is a must for anyone after an antidote to predictable gastropubs or the All Bar One type scene.

Went to the Dublin Castle yesterday for the first time in ages. The Deuchars bitter was good (and the lager), but in the middle of the afternoon there was no-one there to enjoy it. I exaggerate. There was one single tourist and, it seemed, a single regular drinker. Shame.
One final point. Should empty pubs play their TV to no-one, or is a jukebox always preferable?
