The Essex Serpent, Covent Garden
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's not the best area for pubs round here (Exhibit A: The Punch & Judy ) though this one tries manfully to buck the trend. An average little place, so small it probably passes most of the tourists by (though the sign for 'our famous fish and chips' does its best to lure them in). Regular bar on the ground floor, restaurant function room upstairs, and two screens for the sport in the basement (word of warning though, the brick-clad jail cell look downstairs can attract some peculiar characters). Handy enough for a quick refreshener, but the pub's small interior means that unless you're Lilliputian in stature you'll probably move on for a bit more space elsewhere.
