The Fallow Buck, Enfield
FancyaPint?'s review...
This pretty pub in the greenbelt is the kind of archetypal olde worlde country pub tourists would love to visit but never do. From the wood panelled exterior, to the small doorways, hidden nooks and creaky floorboards, it exudes character. Sadly it appears to be a victim of its own success. On weekends it gets incredibly busy with families and simply coming for a simple drink is a hit-and-miss affair. It's not helped by half the pub being reserved for eating, compete with a very congruous carpet. As such our advice is to avoid the weekends and take an afternoon weekday visit, when the Fallow Buck transforms from a faintly annoying family pub to a charming little local.

'Tried' to eat there on Wednesday evening but service was so slow (in spite of there being less than 20 people in the restaurant) that we abandoned any hope of being served after an hour - won't be going there again

How to find the The Fallow Buck pub
Head north through Enfield on the A10 until you reach the Forty Hill intersection. Turn left and head for Forty Hill. Carry on for about 10 minutes until you see the pub on the left. W10 bus goes there from Enfield Town and if you fancy a country walk and some orienteering its a mile or so from Crews Hill and Gordon Hill stations.
