The Fat Badger, Westbourne Grove
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Fat Badger is now firmly in the gastro zone which, whilst it's not always a great thing for drinkers, seems to work well enough here. The (mostly young) locals like it and we have to admit that it doesn't have the pretentiousness (or should we say 'as much'?) of other places in the area. The menu looks good, although prices are on a par with the upmarket neighbourhood, but we didn't partake as we'd already eaten. The downstairs interior isn't that huge, and is laid out with the familiar gastro furnishings of leather sofas and armchairs, chandeliers and exclusive (and somewhat disturbing) wallpaper, although it's looking a little worse for wear nowadays. All overseen by Wolfie, the rather excellent pub dog. As for the drink on offer, a lengthy wine list looked worthy of investigation, but sadly, for the real ale drinkers the two hand-pumps didn't have anything on offer, but there were a few beers in tap, plus Addlestone's cider. Whilst the Fat Badger is not necessarily one to cross London for, it's certainly worth a look if you're in the area and the constant stream of people to and from the upstairs dining room are testament to the popularity of the grub here.

I spent a most agreeable Sunday afternoon in here and the Addlestones was just right for the lazy, faded splendour of the place while the menu was grown-up gastro with a few nice touches. Half price wines with a main course on a Wednesday could easily tempt me across town!
