If you're in this vicinity, the Fat Cat is still the venue of choice, especially if you're looking for a bite to eat accompanied by a pint or two. Its nearest neighbours are either too expensive (and often crowded) or simply just too lairy. Located in one of the two original industrial buildings left in Bow Wharf, the Fat Cat serves a decent range of drink, including a couple of decent beers on the hand pumps - Bombardier and Deuchars, and an unpretentious and reasonably priced menu (big portions too). The service is good, recently redecorated the décor is in tune with its surroundings - cosy and not at all industrial and the atmosphere relaxed. The Fat Cat is great for breakfasts on a summer's weekend.

Despite having a reservation we didn't have a table on arrival and after complaining was eventually given a table squashed in a corner and not big enough for our party. No explanations, no apologies. Waited 20 minutes trying to get served at the bar when others who just came in were served immediately. Table next to us told us they had waited an hour for food and another hour for drinks. We left and went elsewhere.
Fat Cat had not enough staff and apparently no management and the most appalling attitude towards customer service.

How to find the The Fat Cat pub

From Mile End, leave the station and turn left. At the lights, turn right and cross over. Continue up Grove Road past the railway bridge and another set of traffic lights (it's about a 10 minute walk). Past the lights and the Bow Wharf development is on the left. From Bethnal Green, take the Roman Road exit. Go along Roman Road until you get to a bridge over a canal. When you get there, you'll see a set of traffic lights ahead. At the lights turn left and Bow Wharf is straight ahead on the left.
