The Five Bells, Streatham
FancyaPint?'s review...
Six months on the reborn Five Bells - the name apparently of the boozer there until 1888, and long before it became a restaurant and then a pub again - seems to have established itself as a civilised watering hole a cut above the drink-tanks that tend to proliferate around here. It's a narrow-fronted but fairly deep building with pleasant wood panelling with good use of stepped-up and down areas to give an easy, comfortable air. The overall gloss effect of the refurbishment seems to have mellowed now to let the original character of the building blend nicely with the sprucing-up. We can't remember whether the smattering of prints and photographs of old Streatham had always been there. Pride and Young's Ordinary belie the ownership and a barrel or two of unusual guest bitters are a nice touch. (New photo to come).

I am shocked and appalled. Very disappointing.
Me and my partner were just on the verge of finishing our drinks when before we'd hit the bottom of the glasses a very rude man came over demanding we leave or buy a drink. This we were about to do! But speedily changed our minds when confronted with this abomination

Sadly down to a two star (two and a bit on a good day). The real ale range is sadly depleted with no more than one guest in addition to the Greene King house beers.
Despite a minor refresh of upholstery earlier this year (the whole place was looking very tired), the Five Bells remains bizarrely quiet most of the time.
By the way, the history in your review is bunk - the original Five Bells was not on these premises best know for the duelling Elvises of Streatham. It was a small beer shop a mile to the south near St Leonard's church - it surrendered its licence when the Bedford Park Tavern opened.
