Billing itself as a wine bar and bistro, the Fox Reformed still wholeheartedly deserves mention on Fancyapint.com. A good-looking place, adorned with piles of old corks in the window, the interior is cosy, almost Parisian in feel, with a tiny back garden adding to the relaxed charm. Happily, they haven't neglected non-wine drinkers and although there's only Stella on tap, the list of bottled beers - all from the excellent Pitfield Brewery - easily puts most pub's ale selection to shame. Add a good choice of whiskey, food served until late and notably friendly service (even if the owner can give the impression of a stern patriarch) means you're onto a winner. With the Monday backgammon evenings (booking essential), wine tastings, and a book club, the Fox Reformed is an active participant in local life and fits perfectly into the upmarket, independent nature of Stoke Newington.
