The Gate, Smithfield
FancyaPint?'s review...
A modern looking pub from the Smith & Jones chain, the Gate seems a little confused as to whether it's a bar or a pub. There's Adnam's on the hand pumps and a typical range of gas-propelled lagers for the less nostalgic. The wine is acceptable enough and there's plenty of decent-looking food on offer, which, mid-evening seemed to be the main reason for people's visits here. Service is OK, the decor modern and comfy and the music was pumping - but, to be honest, it didn't do much for us. Competent, but prosaic would be our school report for this one.
