The Globe, Covent Garden
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's still early days for the new Globe, but there are signs that this pub in the heart of Covent Garden has reopened with a dash of independent character. All seems pretty standard behind the bar (both food and drink options seem unsurprising), but the décor suggests this one's either still finishing off its refit or its going for a look some of the Shoreditch bars might pass over for being too out there (pictures resting not hanging on the wall?). A very easy pub to overlook (it's almost swallowed up by the larger Marquis of Anglesey next door) the Globe - though small - can offer up a decent chance of a seat. It was also on our visit playing host to a fair range of punters; always a good sign to look for in a pub. Perhaps not an outstanding pub, but for this part of town, it does the job.

Just thought I'd add my experience of this weekend that I'm still quiet disbelieving of! Ordered 2 beers and went upstairs to the additional seating. Plenty of room inside and out, but not busy, at most a quarter full. Asked the lady staff member if we could sit anywhere, she said take our pick, which we did. Within 2 minutes a waiter appeared to take our order, asked for 2 minutes to decide, he said we have to move. Initially thought it was because he may have thought we weren't eating (upstairs kitted out as a restaurant). He came back, we ordered, he said we had to move, I asked why, he said he needed the table. I pointed out the other various empty tables, he said it had to be this one. Fine, when did he need it by? 6 o'clock he said, it was 4 at the time. No problem we'll be gone within the hour. At this point the manager came over, I have to assume he was the manager and not some demented loon, shouting at us to get out, that he knew our type and didn't want us in his pub. I have never seen anyone make such a scene over something so trivial, we were gobsmaked (we had not raised our voices and were being polite). He called us liars when we told him the lady staff member said we could sit there (he said she never worked there even when she stood next to him and acknowledged we weren't lying). I actually felt sorry for the staff as I could tell from their faces that they knew he was a bit of a ****! Obviously left, after getting our money back and will never frequent that place again. As the previous poster says lets hope the guy gets what's coming to him! AVOID THE PUB

I worked at this pub for 1 day and it was absolutely disgusting. NEVER GO THERE! The manager is terribly rude to both customers and staff and uses the stale beer from the beer drains to top up pints. I could list other things, too but that's probably enough for now.

Agree totally with Davepryde. The pub is nothing special in itself, beer is overpriced as is food but this is London. It is the staff which is the main problem. I have never experienced such rude unhelpful arrogant staff. The manager is unbelievably rude. NEVER GO TO THIS PUB. I hope it shuts and that the manager gets what is coming to him.

NEVER GO TO THIS PUB. It was dirty, it's staff were extremely unpleasant and it is completely devoid of character. The Staff spoke very poor English and tapped impatiently when I was deciding on my order (despite it being completely empty). After receiving my flat pint of beer (in a filthy glass I might add), I sat down at a table and, about 3 sips in, a mouse ran over my partners foot and we left. Terrible on all levels from start to finish. STAY AWAY!

Very good staff but an animal as manager!
I been there last saturday only for a coffee and after paying my coffee and being directed by a member of staff to a table, a guy jumped from the bar and told us in a very rude way that they were closed and throw our money to our faces literally and said that was is place and he did not wanted to serve us. The only apparent reason was probably my colour or my girlfriend being spanish. The staff tried to confort us but he was really dismissive towards them and they seemed to be afraid of him. A really strange situation.
