The Golden Lion, Romford
FancyaPint?'s review...
Sitting comfortably at one end of Romford Market, this historic pub has been pulling pints for almost 600 years. Having survived two world wars, the Lion still retains its Tudor wooden beams and uneven walls inside. In fact, a recent refurbishment highlights these features giving it a traditional, cosy feel - uncommon in a busy town like this. On tap you'll find no less than 8 well-kept real ales available (including two guests) as well as standard lagers, wines and spirits. The food won't blow you away but it's reasonably priced and freshly prepared. Top this off with three nights of live music per week, a monthly book club, an open fireplace in the winter and an Ale Festival every summer and you have a gem of a pub.
