The Great Western, Paddington
FancyaPint?'s review...
With such a grand name, the Great Western is, in fact, a small unassuming pub close to St Mary's hospital. The modernish signage is rather at odds with the old fashioned interior, which consisted of a few bar stools and some red velour 'U' shaped bench seating. Essentially this a simple, no nonsense pub perfectly fine for a couple of drinks (although we've yet to experience it straight after work). It has to be said that for some reason we can't quite put our finger on, we've got a bit of a soft spot for this pub. However, there is pretty good pub-related competition nearby.

Sadly this little boozer has not only closed but has disappeared! All that stands there at the moment is an empty space (if indeed an empty space can stand). A once favourite haunt of mine as the landlord was a football fan and fellow Gunners supporter. The last time I was in there Frank Lampard had just had his goal disallowed against Germany in the world cup; perhaps it was too much to take for Pete (the landlord) and he dismantled the pub and moved to somewhere where the linesmen have eyes
