Having had the same gastro makeover a lot of Young's pub seem to have attracted in the last few years, it's a smart affair. It's got a separate dining area at the back and that's not a bad thing, although they can probably still watch the tellies if they so desire. The drink's nothing to complain about, with a decent selection from the Young's stable on hand and it's a pleasant enough place for a drink or three. It's obviously found its niche with the locals and they seem more than happy with the state of things, as do the genial staff. It's not a grotty boozer experience anymore, that's for sure. But if you're looking for that, there's a few nearby that will accommodate you, we're sure.

I live close by, The Grove is my local. I so want to love it, But why oh why, everytime I go in there, is the service and the food so bad? I've had wretched meals in there (ask me about the Ploughman's lunch and the underdone Chicken Sunday lunch if you want bad), and tonight (despite my best intentions of giving this pub one more chance) I waited 15 minutes at the bar without being served or acknowledged by any of the bar staff.

I ended up going to the Blithe Spirit down the road in the end. Will I give The Grove another go? Maybe. Maybe not. But there are better pubs in the area, with more attentive and friendly staff.

Great little pub, extremely friendly staff who really make an effort to get it right. A very relaxing atmosphere, great drink selection and the Sunday roast beef that I had was more than value for money.

I would reccomend it to anyone.
