Recently re-launched as one of Young's new brand of "loungey" pubs, it's doing its best to live up to Young's standards and we get the feeling it's working hard at it. The interior is suitably loungey, but with lots of nooks and crannies to hide away (if that's what you want). Beer on the taps is, as one would expect, Young's, but with the addition of several euro-lagers and Leffe to appeal to the bar-going crowd. Looks like they've got a decent wine list as well as a reasonably priced menu. As it's set back in a quiet residential area, it's hard to tell how this one goes down of an evening with the locals. Signs in the entryway asking patrons to respect their neighbours in the evenings suggest there may have been some tension previously. Still, it's a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Camberwell Green, particularly if it's a nice day and you fancy sitting in the sun with a pint.

Pint of Youngs served in Traditional Glass tankard - Impressed

Badly poured by inexperience staff, a quarter of the pint was head, when asked to top up, I was wrongly informed that the pint mark was to the top of the dimples !!?, asked to see the manager, who stated the same but reluctantly topped up to the full pint, left the Grove after pint, only 3 people in this pub considering the world cup was on TV,I guess drinkers vote with their feet

walked down to "The Hermits Cave" busy pub (100+drinkers)cheaper beer, more variety & served correctly by professional staff

When I first lived in Camberwell in the mid 1990's this was a good, popular pub. It had a rather shabby front room which used to be packed on football nights, and a busy lounge in the back. I've ust moved back to the area and I can guarantee that you will hardly see anyone in here. It totaly lacks any local following. The food is average and probably too expensive. The students never come in, which considering the buzz at the Hermits Cave is a shame. Now the Dark Horse has closed down, you fear that after all the money spent in this place, market forces may prevail.

How to find the The Grove pub

From Denmark Hill Station turn left and then left again on to Grove Lane and keep walking down and you will find the pub on the right hand side. It is in a side road just out of the centre of Camberwell, which you can get to from a number of local bus routes.
