The Herbert Chapman, Holloway
FancyaPint?'s review...
You may know this pub by one of its myriad of previous names - The Study and the Hobgoblin being the two most recent. Its latest incarnation is, one assumes, a homage to the nearby stadium and this pub is, unsurprisingly, often full of football fans and sport-lovers watching the big-screen TVs. The inside is comfy enough, with big windows open in summer and some nice comfy sofas, and the pizza-heavy menu would have looked rather appetising, were it not for the all-pervasive smell of floor cleaner. So far, so bog standard, you might think. Well, not quite - there were two things which pushed this pub above the ordinary for us. Firstly, the nude gold statue by the door (don't ask, I have no idea); and secondly, the extraordinarily friendly locals. We visited on a weeknight when the place was empty apart from us, them and a large dog (slightly in fear of our lives, it has to be said) and left dazedly murmuring, "Gosh, they were friendly".
