Just off Fleet Street, the Hoop and Grapes is a cosy nook amidst the corporate canyons. The landlord's kept up the standards set a while back, and we're glad to see it's still worth visiting. Although the interior is unpretentious, care and thought have gone into providing for the wealthy clientele; an excellent wine list, Japanese beer on tap, free-trade cappuccino and Cuban cigars supplement the regular pub offerings. Spiffy corporate types popping in for lunch find it easy to relax with a pint and loosen their impeccable neckties. Solicitors from the nearby Old Bailey come after work and discuss cases - it's a great place to eavesdrop! Area workers, pleased that tourists from nearby St. Paul's usually troop straight down to the Tate Modern or the Globe, therefore bypassing the Hoop and Grapes, have a quiet, welcoming spot to unwind with colleagues before dashing to the tube and the journey homeward. Because of its location it is only open Monday through Friday. A small, trellised patio in the rear can sometimes be overwhelmed by local noise, but that's true anywhere in London.

The Hoop and Grapes is my favorite pub. The service is great, nice beer selection and very good food. I just brought a large party to the Hoop and Grapes and the staff could not have been better. They had gave us a special menu for us, and we had our own room as well with a big screen TV.
