A relatively quiet pub during the day - it's enough off the beaten track that most tourists don't find it. Although a good, central place to meet people in town its tranquility is broken by that horrible sounding Swiss clock thingy every hour on the hour. Still, its traditional pub feel (including fine guest ales) offers something a bit different to the chain pubs of Leicester Square.

I must say at the outset, my sister used to work here.

However it is, as said by the earlier reviewer, a real pub, with a true pub atmosphere in an area that is perhaps the ultimate "tourist trap" in London. People who work in the area use The Imperial as their "local", which is really the ultimate test for any pub. It has a good range of beers, and a decent selection of spirits. It isn't standout on either variety, but it is sufficient.

A word of caution. The loos are accessed by very steep staircases, something to watch out for if you're on a benda. Regarding staff, you will find a bit of a variety of "types". It is in a tourist area and many students pass through. Some get jaded by the by the the numbers, but on the whole they aren't worse than other pubs in central London. The only reason why I'm not giving this place a 4 pint rating is that prices have rocketed in recent times, leading a number of the old regulars to shift camp. But overall it is the most authentic pub in the area. Well worth a visit.

visited this summer - nothing wrong with the location, the beer etc., but customer service absolutely shocking (one of the bartenders). spilt drink on my mate's trousers after literally pushing past him, walked off without saying anything, then just said "sorry" really dismissively when i complained.
