Just as Notting Hill is the epicentre of gastropub London, there's a corner of South West London that's a last bastion of Independent Freehouses. Just like the Canbury Arms of Kingston and the Red Lion of Isleworth, Teddington's The Lion is a back-street local, sauntering along at its own pace. Fuelled by real ale, traditional food and live music, this is the sort of warm and welcoming place that's more at home in suburbia than in the middle of town. You'll probably have to make an effort to track this one down, but as long as you're not after a full on gastro experience or expensive cocktails this solid establishment will deliver the goods.

For the past several years this has been a first class pub for beer and food. It has recently changed hands and the new people must maintain the same subtle, gentle and quiet relationship with their customers as before.
