The Loose Box (ex-Puzzle), Westminster
FancyaPint?'s review...
It has taken a good while for someone to come along and reopen the site once occupied by one of the old Puzzle chain bars. Sister pub of Elephant on the Hill in Clapham Junction, it follows much of the same modus operandi as its kin and falls well into the 'bar and kitchen' bracket. As such, you'll find a good looking and freshly prepared menu and a decent range of lagers and beers. On the other hand, the wine list is surprisingly average, while sadly we now live in a world where bars charge £3.75 for London Pride. Decor-wise, it doesn't feel dramatically different to its predecessor. A tricky space to use well, the low ceilings and lack of natural light at the back make for an almost gloomy experience. The laminate floor and bland gastro green is predictable, with only a raised area at the back and small picture festooned space at the front creating any sort of interest. Saying that, we seem to be in a minority; on our Thursday night visit it was very busy, filled with afterwork drinkers. So if you're looking for somewhere beyond the usual traditional-style pubs which dominate the area (or perhaps an alternative to the nearby Westminster) then you might well enjoy it here.
