The Metropolitan, Westbourne Grove
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Cow and the Westbourne are the watering holes that attract the publicity in this neck of the woods, but if you're walking to either of them from Westbourne Park tube, there's a case to be made for stopping off here first. This one's owned by the same people who've made over the North London Tavern in Kilburn; the Oxford in Kentish Town and the Masons Arms up in Kensal Green. And like those pubs in the main, this one teeters on the brink of all-out trendiness, yet never quite falls into the abyss. The punters are a bit more mixed than you might imagine and generally, a good atmosphere abides. A beer garden - with barbecue in the summer - does its best to pull the punters in, which is a difficult ploy given the nearby Grand Union has seats on the canal. Oh, and with DJs and a roast of a Sunday, it looks like you'll have to arrive early to bag a seat.
