The Newmarket Ale House, Barnsbury
FancyaPint?'s review...
Perched at the top of York Way as it descends to King's Cross, the Newmarket bears signs of the redevelopments down the road. Proclaiming itself as an "Art Deco Pub" might be stretching things a bit, but this one's managed that difficult trick of smartening itself up to attract new punters, whilst not doing anything too drastic to scare away the regulars. Not the greatest range of drink you'll ever see behind a bar, but the service was friendly enough, and if the sport shown on the TV isn't to your satisfaction, you might find something of interest on the bookshelves at the back (everything from Henry Fielding to Stephen Jay Gould when we were last in).
