The North Star, Canonbury
FancyaPint?'s review...
This is a fair example of contemporary pub culture, being a serviceable remake of a pub into a bar and dining room. Where this one works over others is with the colourful décor and the clever dividing up of the drinking and eating spaces. The fact there's a small patio at the back (with a barbecue for the summer months) helps things along and it's not often the case that a Gastropub will leave a space for a table football machine. On the drinks front, emphasis is on wine and cocktails though a few real ales make it onto the pumps. As for the food, it's the usual gastro favourites, so demand your money back if you don't see the words 'balsamic vinegar' somewhere on the menu. And if the portions on the Big White Plates don't fill you up, there's a chip shop across the road to chance after Last Orders.
