The Old Pack Horse is a good, solid pub. It has a sleepy feel out of hours, but picks up in the evening when a mixed bunch of locals fill the place up. It's a Fuller's pub and the beer's brewed just down the road so a decent pint is assured. Standing prominently at a busy junction, the Old Pack Horse's splendid Edwardian exterior is matched by a welcoming interior, with leather settees dotted about. There's a cosy fire in winter and a courtyard garden out the back for the summer - all seasons, it seems, are covered. It's been smartened up a little recently, but this hasn't affected the character. The Thai Caf� at the back is popular and comes recommended and it does takeaways, so if you really can only stop for a swift one, you can at least take the food out with you. A jolly decent pub and easily one of the best in the area.
