The Old Ship, Richmond
FancyaPint?'s review...
With stylish wood panelling and beams there's an appropriate ship-like feel to this pub that's been serving ale since at least 1735, when it was major coaching stop. But it's not all olde worlde charm, the 21st century is represented by three substantial screens for the big sports events, understandably it's popular for the Rugby and free WiFi for those who can't live without their hourly Facebook fix. The pub is much bigger than the exterior suggests, there are two bars served by the central island as well as an upstairs bar which can be hired out. The drink's good - it's Young's so you'd expect it to be - and ambience for all and thankfully it's not been given the Young's "modern" treatment. The only (minor) negative we can attribute here is the quality of the food, which we found to be rather basic and unimaginative tourist fodder. Still, worthy of stopping by for a pint or two.
