Literally a minute from Broadway Market it seems the gentrification of London Fields stops at the Regent's Canal - a watery demarcation line which keeps two worlds apart. For while the young trendy Hackney residents swarm over the organic food stalls and the faux French bar and La Vie En Ros is bustling with people (oblivious to the trials and tribulations the area has undergone in the last few years) the Perseverance remains a stubbornly blokey, working class boozer. Taking its clientele predominantly from the nearby sea of estates, it is heartening to see a pub like this with a bit of life; so many locals' pubs have closed down in the area that there had to be at least one place to cater for the original E2 residents. Lager, Sky TV and pool are the simple pleasures here and while the occasional Hoxtonite can be seen this is predominantly a local's pub. Not outstanding by any means, but at least refreshingly normal.

How to find the The Perseverance pub

From London Fields station exit right and then right again under the bridge to London Fields park. From there turn left and follow the path through the park down to Broadway Market (or walk around the park). Walk down Broadway Market and the pub will be on the left in a few minutes.
