The Pied Bull, Streatham
FancyaPint?'s review...
This one time fantastic traditional Young's pub was entirely run into the ground during the last few years. As such it came as no surprise that it became a prime candidate for a revamp. If you're clued up on their approach, just hearing the words 'Young's refurbishment' means you know the place is going upmarket. Perhaps a separate dining area, maybe some flock wallpaper, certainly a long wine list. In the case of the Pied Bull however, things have deviated slightly from the usual blueprint and you'll find sports and games heavily promoted. There's a pool and darts, accompanied by a number of leagues. As a large pub, it can also accommodate a sports bar to keep the footy fans satisfied. Happily there is also a wealth of dark wood and original features, supplemented by scores of framed prints and the flock wallpaper. Some of the garish carpets sit at odds with this old pub, but we didn't really expect anything else. They also call themselves a lounge and sports bar. Now we know it maybe unfashionable, but just be honest and call yourself a pub - and a pretty good one to boot.

i have to dissagree ive been drinking at this pub on the odd occasion say 2-3 times a fornight for the last 3 years and have to say after the new management kicked in around a year and a half ago its really gone uphill. As for the refurb its managed to divide the pub into 2 sections allowing costumers to enjoy either a quiet drink or have some banter with the regular costumers. Went there last week with the wife for some food on sunday and to be honest the service was above average to say the least barstaff were enthuasiastic and very polite the food was divine everything homemade from the gravy to the yorkies will definetly continue to come here without a second thought

I had hoped that the poor service was down to the staff having an off day, unfortunately a friend, for whom this place is their local, confirmed that service is often farcical.
On the night I went - 16/07/2010 - the kitchen ran out of burgers, then the oven stopped working, but my friend had to wait nearly 40 mins to be told why his order hadn't arrived.
The ladies loo ran out of paper and despite being next to a late night supermarket, the staff said there was nothing they could do.
And finally just trying to order a pint involved waiting at the bar for nearly 10 mins, being ignored by one member of staff, while there was no sign of the other two who had been floating around all evening.
I certainly won't go back or recommend this place
