The Prince Alfred, Sydenham
FancyaPint?'s review...
Fairy standard locals pub, lifted into the realms of madness by its interior. Sadly, the faery lights have gone from the small stage, but the back room still feels less like a random amassing of old stuff, more a detailed recreation of a 1940s parlour (you half expect the large wireless to crackle into life with news of the Normandy landings). We were particularly taken by the wagon wheel benches and the amazing profusion of nick nacks distributed around the place - it must be a nightmare to dust. Irish theme pubs should take note: this is how you do all that nicky nacky stuff. The racing was on when we were in last and Abbots was the only beer on, but it was pleasant enough. The only thing that was a bit disconcerting was the distinct smell of urine when we walked in the door...
