The Queen's Head & Artichoke, Regent's Park
FancyaPint?'s review...
Nestled behind the back of the Royal College of Physicians, this place is reasonably handy for the Indian food nirvana of Drummond Street. The wood paneled bar gets pretty packed with local workers and some locals during lunchtime and in the evenings, with the upstairs restaurant doing a booming business as well. The bar also serves an extensive tapes menu and daily specials, though we wouldn't necessarily classify them as cheap. There's some good ales on the pumps which are well kept. The place looks like a continental caff - albeit one with a large selection of religious icons in a case at one end of the main bar. If you can bag one of the capacious sofas you may well feel tempted to stay a while and hold forth on questions of existence and philosophy.

For my tastes this place is a bit too much of a restaurant rather than a pub. Maybe Sunday lunchtime is not a fair test, but we got there a minute after opening time and there was only one unreserved table available. Waiter service at the tables and I doubt we'd have been welcome to sit at one if we hadn't been eating. Bar stools available for those just drinking.
To be fair, the selection of beers was good (Timothy Taylor Landlord, Adnams, and two Sharpe's) and the Landlord I sampled was in decent nick. Food was patchy... Sunday roast OK, tapas variable in quality.
Service was prompt and reasonably friendly. Prices not outrageous considering location and style. An OK sort of place if you're looking for bistro-style, but don't expect a back-street boozer.
