On the go since Charles I was on the throne, this is the sort of country inn you might not imagine surviving within the M25. Then again, this is Pinner we're talking about. One of the few parts of the kingdom to house a shop purely for the sale of ladies golf apparel, this is still the comfortably well-off part of Metroland so beloved of John Betjeman. One imagines Betjeman at home in this pub: its wooden interior and cheery punters feel like they've come straight out of one of his poems (the one called 'The Village Inn' to be precise). There's still a strong community spirit to the area (amateur dramatics in the village hall, annual summer fair etc) and you sense the pub is the centre of it all. Hence the only concession to 21st century pub life is in the communal form of a pub quiz: there's none of your disrupting Sky TV nor jukeboxes here. Decent beer (served in handled glasses if you ask nicely) and old fashioned bar snacks are the order of the day, but it's the atmosphere of the place that you really come here for. It's the sort of timeless pub that will turn even the most lairy of drinker into a contemplative old soak. Which is perhaps why we like it so much. If the thought of travelling north to Zone 5 doesn't induce a bleeding nose, brave the vagaries of the Metropolitan line and visit it. A classic.

Yes, it looks like the sort of place that John Betjeman could be found sitting in the corner, supping a pint. However, linger awhile and the atmosphere is akin to a meeting of The Freedom Association in a morgue - ie the usual old suburban bores discussing the death penalty and sharing - with the landlady - a touching hatred for children. It could be an absolutely cracking boozer...but it's not. By the way, the pub across the road - the now closed Victory - has only been a boozer since the 1950s...not the 16th century.

This pub is so beautiful.....both inside and out....that you cannot help but drop in for a pint. I've been going here on and off for about ten years and it has recently emerged from a "dodgy" period where the staff/management were incapable of keeping (or even GETTING) the ales they have on hand pump. It became a lottery as to whether or not you could trust what was in your glass.

However i'm pleased to say it's improved of late. It has incredibly popular times, such as warm days and Sunday afternoons, but it also sadly has times when it is almost empty.

I'm not sure what the food's like as, incredibly, i've never witnessed any being served!

It has resisted all pressure to modernise though, and i pray that this continues. Just look at the effects of modernisation on the nearby Victory....an allegedly 16th century pub turned into a.....well, i don't know what it's meant to be but it's grotesque. Let's just say i don't think they have a policy on the age of their punters. Just leave the pram outside.

The Queens Head is as old as Pinner and a traditional pub. Look after it!

This pub looks so cool, I love olde pubs like this, so funky and interesting. Went to the quiz and the guy I was there with (date) thought he'd impress me by cheating on an iphone!! see this in several pubs and it really annoys me. would go back here though, but not with him!
