The Ravenscroft is a former (or perhaps current) estate pub close to Columbia Road which has given itself a refurbishment. The unusual exterior is painted a light magnolia colour, while the interior has received an equally safe but unremarkable cafe/bar wooden flooring and pale walls look. An advertisement indicated that tea and coffee was being served, but failing that there was Courage on the pumps. A fruit machine in one corner blocked the dart board, which we presume doesn't get much use these days, but otherwise Karaoke and a quiz night make up some of the entertainment on offer. On our midweek visit however, there was only a lone regular propping up the bar, accompanied by that unmistakable smell of extra strong disinfectant which tends to permeate local's pubs such as this. We wonder if it picks up on the weekends, as it was perilously quiet, although admittedly it had one more customer than the otherwise excellent Flea Pit 60 seconds away. However, with the a number of excellent pubs within a short walk away the incentive to come here is rather limited.

Went in here with a mte last summer, and the whole bar stopped talking and looked at us! Fortunately the barmaid said 'It's OK, he lives on the estate'; and we actually had quite a pleasant time after that. But clearly a 'local's local'.

Not very close to any station, very close to the middle of the flower Market on Columbia Road. From Cambridge Heath station, turn left onto Hackney Road and turn down Ravenscroft Street, which is approximately the 10th turning on the left. The pub is on the right halfway down. The 26 and 48 buses from Liverpool Street go along Hackney Road and pass the top of Ravenscroft Street. The 55 does the same from Old Street.
