The Regent, Balham
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's always a worry when the first thing we see when we enter a pub is tables set for lunch or dinner. We were heartily relieved on this occasion, as it was only the tables at the front that were laid out this way on our latest visit to the new incarnation of this pub - the Regent. The rest of the place is a normal bar/pub with plenty of seating and standing room to enjoy a drink. The food is good and reasonably priced, although a bit more upmarket than the previous owners provided. There's decent beer on the two taps and, although we didn't look at the wine list, we'd guess it's similar in nature. The new owners are doing a great job and obviously meeting the needs of the locals. We can only wish them well.

Good night, but bar staff are very slow to serve despite not being that busy. They have a tendency to look straight through you! One actually spent about 10 minutes spooning mayonnaise into tiny pots while eyeing up all of us waiting to be served! That said, thanks to the GM for turning the music down when asked! It was absolutely deafening. To have to yell to be heard by your friends is distinctly unpleasant.
