It would be easy to miss the Regent, as it's down an alley down from its closest competitor the 'Paradise' and away from the main drag. That, however, would be a mistake. It's genial inside, with an attractive interior that feels well designed, coupled with decent beer, friendly staff and a loyal following from younger locals. It successfully pulls off the often tricky task of balancing it's job as a modern bar while also giving a good nod to the past, with it's elegant chandeliers and an attractive, ornate bar area. We can already the fire being a draw when the weather turns a colder. The menu looks good - there's a heavy focus on burgers around the £10 mark - and we plan to try one on our next visit. The large garden is a bit of a surprise, as it's practically an extension of the interior, complete with plenty of heaters, couches and covered areas. The only thing that put us off slightly was the burnt popcorn smell from the popcorn maker on the end of the bar: the smell you get at cinemas and shopping malls, its not necessarily conducive to the otherwise relaxed atmosphere.
