The Rye, Peckham
FancyaPint?'s review...
One of the better pub renovations we've come across of late. Even though the furnishings and the artwork on the walls seem familiar from many a gastro makeover, the friendly bar staff and sizeable beer garden are rather rarer sights. As for the food, it's a cut above normal pub grub though without gastropub pretence (or prices). Battling with the Gowlett for mantle of Peckham's most spruced up pub, the Rye does a fine job.
Update - Pub has again been refurbished and is a Capital Pub Co development which is usually a bye-word for quality - more to come after we re-visit soon...

Spent a lovely afternoon there in the beer garden. Unfortunately the service and food was dire. The staff were friendly, but they brought out the wrong order. When they came back with the correct meal it was stone cold and all my friends had finished their food. The meat and gravy on my roast had congealed and the veg was actually raw. Even though they apologised (albeit from the manager while he was moving and walking away) there was no explanation as to what happened and offered no recompense.
Save your time and money and go somewhere else for Sunday lunch.

Is the Rye a pub, anymore? It seemed much more like a restaurant when I we popped in for a sunday lunch, and even tapped us for an 'optional' 10% for 'service'. The staff are young, buzzy and frightfully enthusiastic, which was all a bit too much to take for this old bugger on a sunday afternoon. In fairness, I was probably the oldest person they'd seen in weeks, the pork roasts were more than okay and the 6X was reasonable but, at what worked out at £3.40 a pint, a trifle pricey. Unrecognisable from the old family local it used to be.
