Well, we finally got to this one and discovered the Spectator is more wine bar than pub, but judging by the way the clientele were tucking into their lunches it's doing all right. There's only euro lagers on the taps - the Kaltenberg Hell was very nice, although we might appreciate it more on a warmer day. The wine list is extensive with a good election of old and new world wines that shouldn't break the bank. The one that caught our eye, a 2004 Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru was a little beyond us at over £50 - trust us to pick the most expensive one on the menu! The staff are friendly and table service appears to be standard - something we never complain about. And for where it is, it's hardly surprising that most of the clientele is local office types. You could do a lot worse than go here if you're in the area, but if you're a real ale drinker, you'd best give it a miss.

How to find the The Spectator (ex-Nylon, ex-Pavilion, ex-Poet's Corner) pub

Take the Newgate Street exit from St. Paul's and cross the road past the phone boxes toward the large, sandy BT building. Bear left around the building and carry on down King Edward Street. There's a park and the old Post Office on the other side of the road. Cross Angel Street and carry straight on. It should be visible from there and not more than another 30 metres away.
