The Swan (ex-Edwards Bar), Hammersmith
FancyaPint?'s review...
We've been meaning to get down here for some time now and we're glad we did. Nicholson's have taken over the ownership of what used to be a rather loutish Edwards Bar. Luckily, the proximity of the Wetherspoon two doors down means that the Swan doesn't suffer the attentions of the itinerant waifs and strays that cause a lot of "station pubs" to suffer. The refit has taken the Swan back to its old glory days with smart, classic, tasteful decor, chandeliers and stained glass. Nicholson's reputation for its choice of ales was alive and well here with some 8 regularly-changing pumps on show, with plenty of choice for non-ale drinkers elsewhere along the bar. Service was prompt and friendly, and the food tasty and good value for money. On top of this, there's a couple of TVs, plenty of seating and the candles, nonintrusive music and general airiness of the place means that Hammersmith town centre finally has a pub in the 4-pint bracket.

“Avoid -- unless you like mice in the restaurant”
I've been to the Swan several times and it's been one of my favourite pubs in this area, but no more.....at least not until they get rid of the mice in the restaurant. At the end of a very pleasant evening with friends, was astonished that a mouse appeared and even more astonished when the staff were blase about this saying they knew they had mice, claiming it's an old building and impossible to get rid of them. The local council seem equally blase; there had been two previous reports about mice in the restaurant but they were satisfied there was no evidence of contamination in the food prep area. For me, mice in the food eating area is equally unacceptable, and I cannot understand why any establishment that serves food and drink is allowed to continue doing so with mice having free reign of the restaurant once it's closed. YUK! YUK! Not good enough, and a very bad advertisement for Hammersmith & Fulham Council's attitude to food hygiene (in my opinion)
