There're not many left like this one. From the entrance (through a door you expect you have to ring before you're allowed in) to its small interior this one takes the 'pub as front room' ethic almost too far. Still, with beer as well kept as they have here you can't complain. We tried the Gale's HSB and Timothy Taylor's Golden Best, when we were last in and there are normally 2 or 3 guest ales on too. A couple of TVs (normally off) and a dart board are added attractions (the space between the oche and the board being the width of the pub) though most of the regulars seem to keep themselves happy with a spot of ale-fuelled conversation. Its location might not be the most salubrious but it's certainly worth a look if you find yourself in this part of town. Small, friendly and a world away from your average corporate pub, they'll maybe even ship down the Hammond Organ for special celebrations. A snack menu is available midweek lunchtimes. A titchy community pub fighting the good fight - no wonder the listings for AFC Wimbledon's matches are on the wall.

When I first moved into the area (2004), this was a near empty pub with slightly dodgy beer. Then its current landlord took over and its never looked back.

It's a fantastic little pub which has built itself up on two things - a brilliant range of real ales (up to six available plus recently handpulled cider too), and being a friendly, community local. There's regular live music, and New Orleans jazz on a Sunday afternoon.

This is a real gem and it's come on leaps and bounds since its review in 2005 - as shown by it winning CAMRA South West London pub of the year for 2008, and then going on to win CAMRA Greater London pub of the Year too.

Just don't come and ask for Stella. They got rid of it some time ago!
