It was given quite a makeover last year and has gone from being a grotty old school boozer to one with a younger, more open feel. The basics are all good - a good choice of real ales (with proper dimpled mugs too, for those who care about these things), pub food, entertainment - and it tries to make the best possible use of its handsome and spacious Victorian interior.

The decor is perhaps a little too self-consciously quirky with random artifacts (1980s postcards on one wall, bits of domestic clutter) dotted about the place; there's just a hint of an irritable reaching after fact and reason there. For some reason, whenever we've visited Led Zeppelin has been playing - like Page, Plant and co, this pub won't be to everyone's taste given its tendency to go over the top at times, but it can do the important stuff pretty well.

Good News everyone!!! Antic have just taken over the Wheatsheaf in Tooting Bec. Gone are the filthy tables, the nasty toilets and the Rose West barstaff and in their place are lovely, friendly staff, great beers and beautiful clean pub. We have a lot of work to do so please bare with us during the transition, you may not notice us, but we are beavering away in the background and will shortly reveal the carfully restored pub!

We look forward to seeing you at the Bar!

Great pub if you happen to like tables that look as though they haven't been cleaned since the 1970s, clients and toilets that look much the same, barmaids that make Rose West look attractive and enjoy watching the Friday / Saturday night weekly brawl. Not suitable at all for a quiet drink and certainly not for families. Cross over the road, there's a bar there called "Smoke" - it's another world over THAT side of Trinity Road!
