Unless you live nearby, the Wheatsheaf is probably one of those places you sail pass on one of the southbound buses from Vauxhall bus station. It's had a paint job, which makes it feel very light and airy inside, with huge mirrors on the walls adding to the sense of spaciousness, but they've left the main bar pretty much intact. They still seem to be keeping one side set aside for dining, which isn't totally shocking in your modern gastro conversion, but it does contribute to the sense that all the drinkers are being herded together. Service was pretty quick and friendly enough and the beer on tap was well kept. The menu and price of food are as expected for a gastro-ish makeover, which adds to the impression of a decent pub and a reasonable choice if you're in the area.
